Mohammed, a leader from the Somali Community, recently told me, “Many of our people are embarrassed that they have to come here like this. It is a humbling experience, to ask for charity.”

There is little CES can do to change the circumstances that cause our clients to run out of food. We’ll leave it to the politicians to manage injustice and disparity. Our job at CES is to distribute food – with kindness and respect. Because kindness is practiced here, the big tarps were bought and hung over the chain link fence facing 11th Avenue. That way, the faces of our guests are protected from curious onlookers. Their dignity is preserved.

The bottom line? Kindness is practiced at CES. It always has been and always will be. Thank you for supporting our mission and ministry. Please continue to keep us, and those we serve, in your thoughts and prayers.
